Regis Spoils Senior Night for Women's Volleyball

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's volleyball had their Senior Night spoiled by Regis College as the Pride topped the Lynx 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-11) in the regular season finale for both squads. Lesley falls to 9-14 overall and 5-3 in NECC matchups while Regis jumps to 13-15 on the season and 7-1 in the conference. Both sides have qualified for a spot in the upcoming NECC Tournament and will wait for seeding to be announced by the conference office tomorrow.

Prior to the match, the Lynx celebrated the careers of seniors Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.), Vera Bednar (Helmond, Netherlands), Christina Ahrens (Marion, Mass.), and Cassie Steele (Wharton, N.J.) for their efforts and dedication to the Lesley Athletics Department. Over the course of four seasons, this group of seniors has qualified for the NECC Tournament in each of their seasons and compiled a 50-46 overall record, including a 24-8 mark in conference play.

Lesley junior Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) finished with seven kills to lead the Lynx offense while classmate Sarah Hollis (Hudson, Mass.) followed with four kills. Bednar dished out a team-high eleven assists and anchored the defense with seven digs. Junior Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) and Reynolds each added six digs on the defensive end for the hosts.

Regis freshman Stephanie Carter (Jupiter, Fla.) paced the Pride with a double-double with 11 kills and ten digs. Fellow freshman Kayal Nystedt (Onamia, Minn.) and sophomore MacKenzie Emco (Sutton, Mass.) each slammed down eight kills while swinging .500 and .312, respectively, on the evening. Junior Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) set up the Pride offense with a match-high 32 assists. The Regis defensive front line sent back 14 attack attempts from the Lynx while junior Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) dug up a team-best 12 balls.

The visitors hit .311 as a team on the night while holding a 42-14 advantage in total kills.

The First Round of the NECC Tournament will kick off on Tuesday night with matchups with the three and six seed, and the four and five seed, respectively. The top two seeds will receive a bye to the Semifinal Round.
