Abbruzzese, Deluga Lead Women's Volleyball to Third Straight Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University kept their perfect New England Collegiate Conference record intact as they downed Mitchell College 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16) in conference play tonight at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The win propels the Lynx to 6-10 overall and 3-0 in the NECC while the Mariners drop to 3-12 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.

The Lesley University junior duo of Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) and Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) powered the Lynx offensive attack. Deluga notched her third straight double-double and match with 20-plus kills as she knocked down 20 while swinging a robust .548 to go along with 11 digs, three blocks, and three service aces. Abbruzzese followed with 16 kills on a .361 hitting percentage while digging up seven balls on the defensive end. Fellow junior Sarah Hollis (Hudson, Mass.) provided a strong game from the middle with ten kills.

Junior Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) anchored the defense with 18 kills while freshman Wing Li (Quincy, Mass.) dug up 13 balls. Senior Vera Bednar (Helmonds, Netherlands) reached a new career-high for the third straight match, dishing out 42 assists.

Mitchell senior Amanda Rowan (Sandy Hook, Conn.) led the offense for the visitors with a team-high 11 kills on a .292 hitting percentage from the floor. Junior Italia Krick (Griswold, Conn.) knocked down five kills while sophomore Colby Zitoli (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Ariana Carter (Central Falls, R.I.), and juniors Janelle Rice (Meriden, Conn.) and Myia Williams (Roselle, N.J.) added three kills apiece.

The Lynx held an advantage kills (48-28), digs (58-44), blocks (5-3), and hitting percentage (.281 - -.008) on the night.

Lesley will take a brief break from conference play and return to their home floor tomorrow night for a bout with Wheaton College at 8:00p. Mitchell will return to action on Saturday and hit the road to Newbury College for a tri-match with the Nighthawks and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
