CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Mount Ida College tonight in non-conference action at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 2-6 overall while the Mustangs improve to 6-5 on the season with the win.

The first set belonged to the visitors as they rolled to a 25-11 victory to stake a 1-0 lead. Junior Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) powered the offense for the Mustangs in the set as she knocked down five kills on a .556 hitting percentage.

Lesley would use a late 6-1 surge to pull within four, 20-16, in the second set but that would be as close as the hosts would get as Mount Ida would score five of the next seven points to claim the second 25-18. The Mustangs featured a balanced attack as freshman Hannah Simpkins (Walpole, N.H.) and seniors Alysha Dunbar (Quincy, Mass.) and Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) each recorded three kills in the set.

The third set was tight throughout as neither side held a lead greater than four points. Late in the game, Lesley junior Sarah Hollis (Hudson, Mass.) slammed down a kill to give the hosts a 24-23 edge, but Mount Ida would score three straight to complete the 3-0 sweep with a 26-24 third set victory.

Alkinburg led the way for the Mustangs with nine kills, five digs, one solo block, and three blocking assists while swinging .353 on the evening. Reidy also finished with nine kills to go with eight digs while Dunbar, Simkins, and sophomore Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) each finished with five kills. Freshman Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) set up the offense with 30 total assists.

Lynx junior Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) paced the offense for the hosts with ten kills on a .409 hitting percentage. Hollis would add eight kills and fellow junior Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) finished with six kills and 11 digs. Senior Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) led all players with 15 digs and classmate Vera Bednar (Helmond, Netherlands) finished with 21 assists.

Lesley will face a quick turnaround and travel to nearby Simmons College for another non-conference affair tomorrow night at 7:00p. Mount Ida will return home on Wednesday night and play host to Emmanuel College. First serve for that match is scheduled for 6:00p.
