Women's Volleyball Sinks Vikings to Earn Second Straight Win

SALEM, Mass. – The Lesley University women's volleyball team earned their second straight victory as they upended host Salem State University 3-1 tonight on the road at the Twohig Gynasium. After dropping the first set 27-25, the Lynx stormed back to sweep the next three 25-22, 25-17, and 25-15.

The Lynx improve to an even 2-2 on the year while the Vikings drop to 0-2 in 2015.

Senior Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif.) led the visitors with 28 assists and added six digs while sophomore Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on the Hudson, N.Y.) contributed a team-best 11 kills and four digs. Senior Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) added a season-high nine digs and five kills while sophomore Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Hollis (Hudson, Mass.) finished with seven kills apiece.

Emily Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) led all players with 18 kills for Salem State while Allison Vellucci (Northville, Mich.) added 10 kills. Payton Pizzano (Stoughton, MA) chipped in with 26 assists and seven digs in the loss.

The Lynx hit a remarkable .325 as a team in the victory, their highest mark since October 18, 2012 when they swung .358 in a 3-0 sweep against Massachusetts Maritime.

Lesley will look to make it three- and four-straight on Saturday when they head to Emerson College for a tri-match with the Lions and Western New England University. Salem State will also play in a tri-match on Saturday as they travel to Eastern Nazarene College to face off with ENC and Maine Maritime.
