Nighthawks block by Lynx, hand Lesley 3-1 defeat

BROOKLINE, MA -- Newbury used three solo blocks and 17 block assists to top Lesley by the score of 3-1 Wednesday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action. 

Senior Megan Ortwein totaled five kills with only one error for the Lynx, which got a match-best 25 digs from freshman Danielle McDonald. Sophomore Alyson Finbow added three solo blocks and a block assist, but the Lynx fell to 7-13 overall and 4-3 in NECC play.

Newbury's Jesse Touron and Sydney Fish tied for match-high honors with eight kills over 23 attempts each, the prior leading her team with 17 digs. Fish, meanwhile, chipped in with five of the team's 17 block assists, and Lauren Watson assisted on a team-high six blocks.

After Newbury (12-17, 6-2) captured the first two sets 25-21 and 25-13, Lesley answered with a 25-23 win in Game 3, but Newbury wouldn't let the Lynx force a deciding set, taking Game 4 25-14.

Lesley returns to the court in the team's regular season finale, traveling to Southern Vermont on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
