Lynx celebrate senior night with 3-0 win over Becker

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley University improved to 7-11 on the season and 4-2 in-league with a 3-0 win over Becker College Friday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball play at the Nicholas Athletics Center.

On her senior night, Kaitlyn Miller (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill) celebrated by leading all players with 12 kills, while Danielle Johnson (Waterford, CT/Waterford) followed with nine kills on 17 attempts for a match-best .412 hitting percentage. On the defensive side, Danielle McDonald scooped a match-high 25 digs as the Lynx won for a fifth time in seven matches.

Joanna Slomiak (Brockton, MA/Norfolk Agricultural) led the Hawks with 15 digs, and Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, CT/Masuk) posted a match-high three solo blocks.

Two Miller kills got the Lynx off to a 6-3 lead to start the night, and a pair of Miller aces put Lesley on top 10-5. A 7-0 Lynx run with McDonald at serve followed in putting Lesley up 17-6 as Lesley cruised to a 25-10 win.

Lesley carried its momentum over into Game 2, going ahead 10-3 on a Hawks ball handling error. Becker, however, battled back with a Slomiak service ace to make it 17-12 and an Angela Jankowski (Webster, MA/Shepherd Hill) ace to come within 22-16, but a Katrina Stroganoff (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) kill caped Lesley's 25-19 victory.

Becker held its share of leads in a seesaw Game 3, going up 9-7 and then 12-10 thanks to a pair of Lynx attack errors. Lesley sophomore Rachel Frederickson (Marston Mills, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth) then stepped to serve, tearing off four consecutive aces to swing the Lynx back on top 15-12, and the home team never trailed again, winning 25-16.

For the second night, the Lynx tied a season high with 20 service aces, with Frederickson, Stroganoff and Alyson Finbow (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) all serving four.

Prior to the match, Lesley held its annual Senior Night festivities, honoring Megan Ortwein (Easton, PA/Shanghai American), a two-time All-NECC Honorable Mention selection, and Miller, also a two-time All-NECC Honorable Mention, as well as the program's all-time assists leader with 1,884. In reserve duty, Ortwein threw over three service aces on the night.

The Lynx return to the court Tuesday night in the team's home finale against Suffolk University.
