WORCESTER, MA -- WPI opened up leads early six-point leads in each of the first two sets and went on to a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-15, 25-22) over visiting Lesley Thursday night in non-conference women's volleyball play.

Sophomore Alyson Finbow led the Lynx with five kills and a .267 hitting percentage. Senior Kaitlyn Miller led all players with three service aces, and Danielle McDonald led the defense with seven digs.

For WPI, Kerrin Beovich led all players with 13 kills on 21 attempts with only two errors, tying a career high with a .524 hitting percentage, and Alyssa Fidanza marked a match-high with 24 set assists.

Back-to-back Belinda Nwagbara kills sent the Engineers out to a 10-4 lead in the opener. A pair of Megan Ortwein kills sparked a run in which Lesley stormed back by scoring eight of the next 11 to make it a 15-12 game. With WPI hanging on to an 18-14 lead, two more Nwagbara kills capped a 7-1 that sealed a 25-15 Engineers victory.

A 6-0 run ending in consecutive Beovich kills found Lesley in a 12-6 hole in Game 2. Lesley never pulled closer than within five, and three straight errors put the visitors down 22-12 in another 25-15 WPI win.

Lesley jumped out to an early lead in the third set, with kills from Danielle Johnson and Finbow opening up a 4-1 lead. WPI twice came back to tie in the early going, only to hand Lesley a pair of two-point leads on attack errors, with Lesley going back on top 10-8.

A kill and a service ace from Beovich fueled an 8-2 run that put Worcester on top 15-12, but back-to-back Miller aces knotted the contest at 17-17. With the set tied at 20-20, one of Beovich's two attack errors gave Lesley a one-point lead, but two Beovich kills in a 5-1 run sealed WPI's 25-22 victory.

The Engineers hit .198 as a team and held Lesley to a .014 hitting percentage as WPI improved to 4-2. The Lynx dropped to 1-3 with the loss.

Lesley returns to the court a week from tonight in the Lynx home opener against Salem State at 8:00 p.m.
