Lynx take league win, split tri-match at Becker

LEICESTER, MA -- Lesley bested Becker for a 3-1 NECC win and dropped a non-conference tilt with Eastern Nazarene in Saturday's tri-match hosted by Becker.

Megan Ortwein led the Lynx offense, combining for 26 kills over the two matches. She led all players with 14 kills while commiting only three errors over 32 attempts in the first match, earning a .344 hitting percentage and wrapping up a double-double with 12 digs. Senior Kayla Henry registered double figures in both categories in the opener, with 11 kills and 13 digs to go along with a pair of block assists, and freshman Alyson Finbow earned a match-best .544 hitting percentage with nine kills on 15 attempts as the Lynx improved to 2-4 in NECC play.

The Lynx jumped out to a 2-0 match lead on the strength of team's scorching hitting, combining for 21 kills and only a pair of errors over 50 attempts in the first two sets, wins by the scores of 25-13 and 25-8. An 11-2 run turned a close opening set into a 10-point lead for the Lynx, and a 16-1 run featuring three Henry kills and two aces from freshman Rachel Frederickson broke open Game 2.

Lesley's previously efficient offense took a step back with 11 attack errors on 32 Game 3 attempts, but after its 25-19 loss, Lesley rebounded midway through the fourth set. The Hawks momentum would carry over in the form of a 10-8 lead before Ortwein fueled a 7-1 run and the junior totaled six of her 14 kills in the set, which Lesley captured 25-17.

Having hit .207 as a team in the opener, the Lions put a halt on the Lynx hot hitting, totaling five blocks while limiting Lesley to .025 hitting as a team in Easter Nazarene's 25-12, 25-23, 25-20 victory. After leading the team with 20 in the win over Becker, Frederickson led the defense with 15 digs in the loss, surpassing the 250 mark for the season.

Ortwein tied with Eastern's Cayla Clinkscale for match-high honors with 12 kills, earning a .346 hitting percentage over 26 attempts and only three errors, but the rest of the Lynx  combined for 20 kills and 26 errors in the 3-0 loss.

With the split, Lesley snaps a five-match slide and moves to 5-15 overall, 2-4 in NECC play. Ortwein's Lynx return to play in a non-league tilt at Anna Maria on Monday at 7 p.m.
