Visiting Lynx bow to the Saints in three

BOSTON -- Host Emmanuel College won its fifth straight match, topping the Lynx, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-17), Tuesday night in non-conference volleyball play at the Jean Yawkey Center.

Junior Megan Ortwein led the Lynx with eight kills and 10 digs, with senior Kayla Henry totaling six kills and six digs. Setter Kaitlyn Miller handed out 17 set assists and added five digs as the Lynx fell to 3-9 overall.

A Henry service ace put the Lynx out in front, 3-1, to start the night, but a kill by Saints senior middle hitter Rebecca Stanton would put Emmanuel back on top, 5-4. The Saints would never trail again in the opening set, going on to a 25-14 win.

After Emmanuel opened up a 7-2 lead in Game 2, an Ortwein kill pulled Lesley to within 8-5, but the visiting Lynx could not further close the gap in falling 25-16.

The third set was a back and forth battle in which the teams exchanged leads, with Lesley jumping ahead in the early going on consecutive Henry kills. A Stanton kill broke a 12-12 tie, and Emmanuel pulled away with a 13-5 run to close out the night with a 25-17 triumph.

For the Saints, now 10-11 on the year, Stanton led all players with 14 kills on 16 attempts, and setter Kathryne Olsen set a match-high 18 assists.

Lesley returns to play on Thursday, hosting Curry College at 7:30 p.m.
