CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley University (2-8) fell to Mount Ida College (8-7) in non-conference women's volleyball play Thursday night, falling to the Mustangs 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-10).

            Mount Ida's Rachelle Gilbert (Corunna, IN/Dekalb) led all players with eight kills, committing no errors over 18 attempts for a match-high .444 hitting percentage assisted by Cody Fusco's (San Francisco, CA/Waldorf) 12 assists. Gilbert and Jen Ferreira (Shirley, IN/Dekalb) tied for a match-best 10 digs.

            Kaitlyn Miller (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) and Rachel Frederickson (Marston Mills, PA/Dennis-Yarmouth) anchored a busy the Lesley defense with seven digs each, while Kayla Henry (Saratoga Springs, PA/Central Catholic) led the offense with five kills and a .214 hitting percentage.

            The Lynx led for the majority of the opening set before a streak of six straight errors proved too much to overcome, giving Mount Ida the lead for good.  A Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China/American School) kill gave Lesley its second four-point lead of Game 1 at 8-4, and a Henry kill made it an 18-16 Lynx lead in what looked like it would be an opening set victory.

            Mount Ida answered with its 6-0 run, all points compliments of Lynx miscues, making it a 22-18 Mustangs lead, and a Nicole Batakis (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) kill closed out a 9-2 Mount Ida run to escape the opener with a 25-20 win.

            The Mustangs led from start to finish in the middle set, jumping out to a 10-1 lead thanks in part to a pair of kills from Gilbert. Two Batakis errors helped Lesley cut the margin to 10-5, but Mount Ida answered with five straight points to go up 15-5 in a 25-13 win.

            Three early Ferreira kills helped Skip Tately's club open up a 12-4 advantage in the third set. An Ortwein service ace cut that deficit to 12-6 but was as close as Lesley would come, as Mount Ida's 25-10 Game 3 win capped off a night in which the Mustangs hit .343 as a team in getting above the .500 mark at 8-7.

            At 2-8, Lesley returns to play on Saturday against New England Collegiate Conference rival Elms College. Mount Ida resumes play on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletics Conference play at Albertus Magnus.
