Lynx storm back after Game 1 hiccup, top Anna Maria, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Lesley University overcame a late Game 1 rally from the Amcats, taking the final three sets in the Lynx 3-1 victory in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Nicholas Athletics Center.

For Lesley (10-7), Amanda McCracken (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) led all players with 17 kills on 31 attempts, good for a .387 hitting percentage, also getting up for three solo blocks on the defensive end. Meaghan Chadwick (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) enjoyed one of the finest matches of her senior season, complimenting McCracken with 12 kills over 23 attempts and a .348 average.

Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, MA/Presentation of Mary) paced Anna Maria (7-13) with 12 kills on 30 attempts, six digs and a pair of solo blocks. Nichole Robbie (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) added a team-best seven digs.

In the opening set, a 6-0 Lesley run featuring four kills by sophomore Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China/American School), a McCracken service ace and a Kaitlyn Wechsler (Saratoga Springs, NY/Central Catholic) kill put the Lynx ahead 20-14 and forced an Elysce Tackmann timeout. Her Amcats responded in a big way, capping the set on an 11-3 run led by three Acosta kills, including the game-winner, as AMC stole Game 1, 25-23.

In retrospect, the Amcats would have been best to let sleeping dogs – or in this case, Lynx – lie, as the rest of the night belonged to Lesley. A 6-1 Lynx run opened up a 12-6 lead, forcing a Tackmann timeout. Another 6-1 run, this one with a pair of McCracken kills, closed out a 25-12 Game 2 Lesley victory.

The Lynx picked up in Game 3 right where they left off, scoring seven straight out of the gate with Ortwein at serve. With the set at 15-8, two kills and a block from McCracken highlighted a 10-1 run to seal a 25-9 victory.

Lesley opened up the fourth set with a 10-2 lead and used an 11-0 run to jump out to a 22-4 lead. Six service aces, two from Kaitlyn Miller (Leesport, PA/Schuykill, PA) and one from Chadwick at match point, wrapped up a 25-4 win.

Winners of three in a row and five of six, TJ Hajjar's Lynx travel to Salem State for an out-of-conference tri-match on Saturday, when Anna Maria plays in the Clark University tri-match.
