CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Saint Joseph College (Conn.) women's volleyball team visited Lesley University and were defeated by the Lynx 3-1 (27-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16).  Both sides exchanged the lead several times throughout the entire match, but Lesley was able to fend off several offensive threats from Saint Joseph to get the victory.

With the victory, Lesley improved to 6-9 (4-1 NECC) while Saint Joseph dropped to 7-12 (1-7 GNAC).

In the first set, the Blue Jays held a seven point advantage at 21-14 but the Lynx rallied for eight straight points to get back in the match and take the lead.  Twenty-five points was not enough to determine a winner of the set until Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) drove home a kill to give Lesley a 1-0 match lead.

The Blue Jays halted all momentum by the Lynx as Catherine Irwin (Barkhamsted, Conn.) led her team to an early five point advantage that included three services aces.  Irwin would tally five aces on the day.  The two teams would exchange the lead throughout the set but Saint Joseph would prevail to tie up the match.

Lesley took control of the match for the final two sets winning by five points and nine points to earn their sixth victory of the season.

The Lynx had solid performances Lindsey Marek (Killingworth, Conn.), Wechsler, and Meaghan Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.) who had double-digit kills with 18, 12, and 10, respectively.  Hanna Sakamoto (Tokyo, Japan) led the team with 14 digs and setter Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) tallied 41 assists in the win.

Saint Joseph College middle hitter Brittany Souza (Newington, Conn.) had a game-high 20 kills and also led her team with 12 digs.  Setter Antoinette Marciano (South Windsor, Conn.) dished out 31 assists for the Blue Jays.

Lesley will be back in action on Saturday at Elms College for a tri-match against the Blazers and Southern Vermont College starting at 10:00 am.  Saint Joseph College will host Newbury College on Thursday October 23 at 7:00 pm.
