UMass-Boston sweeps Lesley 3-0

UMass-Boston sweeps Lesley 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University women's volleyball team faced a high-powered UMass-Boston squad on Tuesday night and lost to the Beacons 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-13).  The Lynx dropped their 2008 record to 4-8 (4-1 NECC) while the Beacons improved to 14-7 (1-1 LEC).

In each of the three sets, Lesley was able to hang with their opponent up until a certain point but the Beacons offense was too much to handle.

Leading the way for UMass-Boston was Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, Calif.) who tallied double-digit kills with 16 on 30 total attacks.  McWhorter was also effective defensively as the junior had eight digs in the match.  Teammate Kate White complemented McWhorter's effort with 10 kills, two digs, and a blocked shot.

Setting up the attacks for the Beacons was Cassy Hanneman (Denver, Colo.) who tallied 36 assists.

Junior Megan MacAuley (Upland, Calif.) broke the UMass-Boston record for career digs with 875 after compiling 14 in last night's victory over Lesley.

For the Lynx, Kelly Harrington (Toledo, Ohio) had a team-high seven kills on 23 attacks.  Meaghan Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.) also had a productive game as the sophomore had 5 kills herself.

Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) was solid on the front line as the first year volleyball player blocked four shots in the match.

Lesley will travel to Simmons College on October 15 for a 7:00 pm match while UMass-Boston will host Saint Elizabeth at 1:00 pm on October 11.
