Lesley drops match to Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. - Mount Ida College swept Lesley University 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-14) in a non-conference women's volleyball match.  The Lynx dropped to 0-6 (0-0 NECC) while the Mustangs improved to 6-7 (0-0 GNAC).

Mount Ida led set one right from the start going up 8-1.  The Mustangs offense was in sync as they lead by as many as 13 points in the first set and took it 25-14.

In the second set, the Lynx were able to keep pace.  After being down 3-0, Lesley took the next five points to go up 5-3.  The Lynx would hold the lead for a short time however, as the Mustangs got their offense going again, taking the set 25-17. 

The Lynx would hold an advantage in the third set 8-6, but Mount Ida would again regain composure to complete the sweep.

Lesley was led by Lindsey Marek (Killingworth, Conn.) who had five blocked shots and four digs.  Kelly Harrington (Toledo, Ohio) served up three aces in the loss.

Mount Ida was led by Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, Ohio) who finished with nine kills and Blair Canan (North Reading, Mass.) who had ten kills and four aces.  Stephanie Saito (West Linn, Ore.) and Cody Fusco (San Francisco, Calif.) combined for 33 assists for the match.

The Lynx will host Newbury College on Wednesday September 24 at 7:30 pm in their first NECC conference match.  Mount Ida will host GNAC opponent Emerson on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
