St. Joseph's (Me.) gets road victory over Lesley 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a women's volleyball non-conference match between the GNAC and the NECC, St. Joseph's (Me.) defeated Lesley University 3-1 (25-21, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15).  The loss drops Lesley's record to 0-3 (0-0 NECC) while the Monks improve to 3-10 (0-2 GNAC).

The Monks took the first two sets of the match with efficient kill percentage and quality defense from the back row.  Led by freshman Katie Boccanelli (Harpswell, Me.), who tallied 11 kills on 37 attacks along with 10 digs, St. Joseph's was able to get a comfortable lead.

Dishing out the kills for the Monks was Samantha Varrell (Portsmouth, N.H.) who finished the game with 30 assists.  Varrell served six aces and she was also one of three players to get double-digit digs for St. Joseph's.

For the Lynx, there was a lot to be optimistic about as Lesley was able to set up several quality offensive opportunities.  Lindsey Marek (Killingworth, Conn.) and Kelly Harrington (Toledo, Ohio) led the team with nine kills apiece with newcomer Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) tallying eight kills of her own.

The Monks kept the Lynx back row on its toes the whole game as Hanna Sakamoto (Tokyo, Japan), Kayla Henry (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Marek had 15, 14, and 12 digs respectively.

The Lynx will be back in action on September 18 as the team will travel to Pine Manor College for a 7:00 pm match.  St. Joseph's will host University of New England on the same day at 6:00 pm.
