MMA comes back to beat Lesley in semifinals

CASTINE, Me. - The Lesley University women's volleyball ended their season on Saturday after a 3-2 loss to Maine Maritime Academy in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals.

The Lynx took a early 2-0 lead in the best of five series, but saw the Mariners make a tremendous comeback to win in the fifth and deciding game.  Lesley was led by Lindsey Marek's (Killingworth, Conn.) 13 kills and 3 blocks.  Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) had 25 assists and 7 digs, while Hana Sakamoto (Tokyo, JAPAN) had 17 digs.  Jackie Ungaro (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Beth Hoilund (Germantown, N.Y.) had 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

For her efforts in both the quarterfinal win against Becker College and the hard fought loss to Maine Maritime, Hana Sakamoto was named to the North Atlantic Conference Volleyball Championships All-Tournament Team.

Lesley finished the season at 14-11 (7-3 NAC) and earned the #4 seed in the NAC Championships.  The Lynx were a dominating force in the conference as three of their key players were recognized as All-Conference student-athletes.  Marek earned First Team All-Conference, Spaziante earned Second Team All-Conference, and senior Anya Vines (San Jose, Calif.) was given Honorable Mention.

The Lynx will now look forward to next fall when they will have several of their starters returning.  To learn more about the Lesley University women's volleyball team, please visit their website.
