Lesley climbs NAC standings with wins

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a crucial home tri-match against Becker College and Maine Maritime Academy, the Lesley University women's volleyball team showed they are force to be dealt with in the North Atlantic Conference.

In the first game of the tri-match against Becker College, the Lynx proved they were ready to take a difficult conference opponent winning 3-0.  Trailing in the first game, Beth Hoilund (Germantown, N.Y.) helped give Lesley a lead heading into the final few points of the game.  The second game was dominated by Lindsey Marek (Killingworth, Conn.) as she led the team with seven kills on eleven total attacks.  The third game gave Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) the opponent to spread her sets out of several teammates as her 20 set attempts resulted in ten team kills.

As usual, the defense was impressive as Anya Vines (San Jose, Calif.) and Meaghan Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.) had six and five digs, respectively.  Going into the second game of the day, the Lynx seemed prime to make a big leap in the NAC.

In Lesley's second match against Maine Maritime Academy, the Lady Lynx were off to a great start as they won the first game 30-23.  The momentum shifted, however, as MMA took the next two games to go up 2-1 in the best of five series.  Marek revived the Lynx offense with seven kills on thirteen attacks to tie up the series at two games a piece.  In the rubber match, Marek, Chadwick, and Hoilund provided crucial offense down the stretch to earn Lesley a 3-2 victory.

The Lynx improved to 6-6 (4-2 NAC) with today's sweep of Becker College and Maine Maritime Academy.  The next game for Lesley is Tuesday October 2 at Eastern Nazerene College.
