THE LEAD – The Lesley University women's tennis team captured the program's first conference championship on Sunday afternoon defeating No. 2 Husson University, 6-3, in the 2024 North Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Championship match at the Apex Tennis & Racket Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Lynx picked up a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles action to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. Junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and graduate student Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) battled to an 8-4 win in first singles while sophomores Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) gutted out an 8-6 win in second doubles to give Lesley the early 2-1 lead in the match.  
• Osucha, Legendre and Champa stayed solid in the top three singles slots with 6-1, 6-2 -- 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 wins to help the Lynx seal the historical win.
• Kayla Lockhart earned a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 4 singles over Boyce for Husson while Anah Albert swept No. 6 singles over Tali-Anna Sutherland (Bridgeport, Conn.) 6-0, 6-0.
• With the match already in hand, both squads took to the court to cheer on their teammates in No. 5 singles action that saw a great finish as Lesley first year Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.) defeated Olivia Chandler by a 6-3, 0-6, 14-12 thriller to secure the final at 6-3 in favor of the top-seeded Lynx.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Osucha, Legendre and Champa did not lose to a NAC opponent the entire 2024 fall season, combining to go 20-0 in singles play and 20-0 in doubles play over the course of the regular-season and postseason.
• The Eagles were tabbed No. 1 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Coaches' Poll while the Lynx were ranked No. 2
• Husson owns a 6-4 all-time record over the Lynx but Lesley has now won the last four meetings.

• With the win, Lesley earns the NAC Women's Tennis automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship tournament to be played in the spring of 2025. The tournament field will be announced on May 5th, and play will begin on May 9th at a site to be determined later.
