THE LEAD – Simmons University(8-5) closed out the fall regular season with a two-match win streaking following a 7-0 win over Lesley University (7-4) on Wednesday afternoon in NCAA Division III women's tennis action at the Daly Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sharks came out of the gate strong, claiming the doubles point with a sweep. Sophomore Emma Parsons and junior Laura Lowe blanked Ariane Ramos and Tali-Anna Sutherland, 6-0, to get the day started. Moments later, senior Julia Perconti and Amoli Vad edged out Mary Osucha and Lucy Boyce in second doubles, 6-3, before first-year Masha Shutts and sophomore Emilie Lapointe took first doubles, 6-1.
  • In the singles portion of the competition, Perconti earned her third win of the season with a two-set, 6-0, 6-0, win over Sutherland. Fellow senior Emily Lopez followed up blanking Ramos in two-sets in fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
  • First-year Amoli Vad earned the win in third singles defeating Boyce, 6-1, 6-1, while sophomore Emilie Lapointe claimed second singles. First-year Masha Shutts rounded out the Sharks eighth win of the year with a two-set, 6-3, 6-3, win over Osucha in first singles..

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The setback snaps a six-match winning streak for Lesley.
  • Osucha & Legendre both suffer their first singles losses on the year, each dropping to 10-1.
  • Simmons is now 7-1 vs. Lesley since the 2018 campaign.

UP NEXT

  • The Lynx take on No. 4 Thomas College on Saturday, October 12 in the 2024 North Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis semifinals at the Apex Racket Club in Portland, Maine.
  • Simmons returns to the courts the same day when it begins GNAC post-season play at the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) at noon.
