THE LEAD – Strong singles play powered Lesley University over visiting Clark University, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon in NCAA Division III non-conference women's tennis action at the Beren Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars posted the doubles win taking first and third doubles to jump out to the early lead in the match. The Lynx dominated No. 2 doubles with a 6-0 final by junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and first year Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.) and dropped No. 3 doubles, 6-0, to make the deciding point come down the action in the No. 1 pairing. Sophomores Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) battled the duo of Larkin Gardinier and Merielle Kane to a tie breaker, ultimately falling in the frame by a 7-6 (7-4) final in favor of visiting pair.
- Lesley bounced back in singles action, winning four of the six showdowns to secure the 4-3 wins in the match.
- Osucha regrouped for a 6-0, 6-2 win in top singles play while Legendre cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 No. 2 single "W".
- Grad student Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) dominated No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory while Stamp secure the team win with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in fifth singles.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The doubles defeat for Osucha and Boyce was their first loss of the year but Osucha remains unbeaten in singles action with an 8-0 mark.
- Champa moves to a combined 7-0 on the year in her singles and doubles play.

- Lesley hosts SUNY Delhi on Saturday, October 5 at 2:00 PM in the final NAC match of the regular season at the Beren Tennis Center.
