THE LEAD – Lesley University picked up a huge North Atlantic Conference women's tennis victory Saturday afternoon, downing Husson University in a tight 5-4 final at the Gallagher Tennis Courts in Lexington, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx picked up a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles action to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. Sophomores Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) battled in the top doubles pairing for an 8-4 win while junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and first year Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.) cruised in second doubles, 8-0.
  • Husson senior Olivia Chandler and sophomore Kayla Lockhart picked up the Eagles only doubles win with an 8-0 decision. 
  • Osucha and Legendre stayed solid in the top two singles slots with 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0 wins to help the Lynx record points three and four for the match.
  • The match tightened up as Lockhart picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Chandler and first year Anah Albert each recorded wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles with 6-0 victories in each set.
  • The deciding point came down to the No. 3 singles action between Boyce and Joey Lynn Ramsdell with Boyce prevailing in a 6-2, 6-4 final to lift the Lynx to the 5-4 conference win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Eagles were tabbed No. 1 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Coaches' Poll while the Lynx were ranked No. 2
  • Osucha remains undefeated on the year in both singles (5-0) and doubles (5-0) play.
  • Boyce's singles victory was her first of the year and first career singles win in a position higher than No. 5.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley has a two-week hiatus from match-play and resume action on Saturday, September 28 for a NAC contest at VTSY Lyndon followed by a Sunday, September 29 match against VTSY Johnson.
  • The Eagles have an 11:00 AM showdown on the road against Curry College tomorrow, Sunday, September 15.
