THE LEAD – Abigail Laliberte's three set win at No. 4 singles clinched a 5-4 victory for Salem State over Lesley University at The Central Campus Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings win their second straight to improve to 2-1 on the year while the Lynx go to 1-3.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tied at three sets apiece, Laliberte defeated LU first year Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to secure the win for the Vikings, who took four-of-six singles matches.
  • Sophomore Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles action for Lesley. Legendre cruised, 6-0, 6-0 while Osucha had to earn it with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win.
  • SSU's Ryann Tripp earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles while Erin Curristin and Alanna Zaldivar earned straight set shutouts at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively, winning 6-0, 6-0.
  • Osucha and classmate Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) won top doubles play with a 8-2 win for LU while Legendre paired with sophomore Ariane Ramos (Webster, Mass.) for a 8-4 victory in second doubles.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Despite the setbacks, Stamp played well in her collegiate debut for the Lynx
  • Osucha remains undefeated on the year in both singles (4-0) and doubles (4-0) play.

  • Lesley returns to action on Saturday, September 14 playing host to Husson University at 1:00 PM in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at the Gallagher Tennis Courts in Lexington, Mass.
