THE LEAD – Lesley University opened North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Sunday afternoon with a 5-4 win over Thomas College in NCAA Division III women's tennis action at the Beren Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.
  • Sophomores Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) gutted out an 8-6 win in first doubles while junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and graduate student Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) cruised in second doubles play, 8-0.
  • Osucha stayed hot, coasting in No. 1 singles to a 6-0, 6-0 win while Legendre and Champa also made quick work of their matches in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Legendre earned a 6-1, 6-3 win while Champa tabbed a 6-0, 6-3 decision to seal the match.
  • The Terriers got solid contributions from the bottom half of their singles lineup as Tracy Lopez recorded a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles while Maya Gammon registered a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 6 play.
  • The most competitive match of the day was in No. 4 singles as Taylor Juhase and Boyce battled in a tight match. Juhase took the opening set 6-4 before Boyce jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second frame. Juhase rallied for seven straight games to win the set 7-5 to take fourth singles but the match had already been decided despite the great effort.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Osucha posted a 6-0 record on the week and remains undefeated in her career in doubles play with a 14-0 record.
  • The appearance for Champa was the first of her career at Lesley following an undergraduate stint at Connecticut College.
  • The Lynx avenge a 2023 regular-season setback to the Terriers and improve to 4-2 in six career matches.

UP NEXT

  • Both squads return to the court on Wednesday, September 11 when the Lynx head to Salem State University for a 3:30 PM non-conference tilt while Thomas host UMaine Augusta at the same time.
