UMass Dartmouth Outlasts Women's Tennis in Season-Opener, 5-4

THE LEAD – The UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team outlasted Lesley University, 5-4, during their home-opener on Tuesday to secure their second win of the season. The Corsairs improve to a 2-0 record while the Lynx fall to 0-1 on the year. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Corsairs split double action in the No. 1 and No. 2 pairings with UMD sophomore Maddie Gonzalez and sophomore Saige Croce earning an 8-3 victory in No. 2 doubles while sophomores Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) posted an 8-3 win of their own out of the top spot.
• Lesley earned the other doubles point in third doubles action via a forfeit to take a 2-1 lead into single play.
• The Lynx took the top two singles matches as Osucha posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory while junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) was victorious, 7-5, 6-1 to give the visitors four points.
• UMD sophomore Eren Adamiak swept sophomore Pamela Manriquez (Quincy, Mass.) in No. 6 singles marking her first collegiate win in singles action. After Croce cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 5 spot, sophomore Sofia Beltran dominated in No. 4 singles to even the match at 4-4.
• Graduate student Emma Collings sealed UMass Dartmouth's home victory after defeating Lucy Boyce 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles spot. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• With the win UMD avenges a 6-2 setback from  the Lynx last season and improves to 6-1 all-time vs. Lesley.
• Along with Manriquez, Tali-Anna Sutherland (Bridgeport, Conn.) also made his collegiate debut for the match, signifying a collegiate debut for both players in the Lesley lineup.

• Lesley hosts Western New England University on Friday, September 6 at 3:30 PM for their home-opener at the Beren Tennis Center.
• UMass Dartmouth is back in action hosting Vermont State University Castleton on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:00 PM from the Corsair Tennis Courts.
