THE LEAD – The Lesley University women's tennis squad opened the 2023 campaign with a strong road outing, topping host Curry College by a 5-4 final on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Curry took the early lead when junior Cayla Osowski (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore Cate Pierce (Melrose, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-6 win at third doubles to open the scoring, but Jessica Legendre and Mary Osucha powered Lesley to a win at first doubles and Brooke Whitten and Jordan Blair followed suit with a win at second doubles to give Lesley a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
  • The teams split the six singles matches to give Lesley the 5-4 win on the afternoon. Pierce won her match 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles to complete a sweep on the day, while senior Sasha Borkov (Newton, Mass.) won in a tiebreaker at first singles for Curry over Legendre.
  • Osucha dominated the second singles match-up with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep while Whitten controlled play at third singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
  • Lucy Boyce came up clutch in the fifth single match posting a 6-3, 6-3 victory to help seal the match for the Lynx.
  • For the second match in a row, Curry junior Grace Coopee (Hampden, Mass.) got the job done at fourth singles, knocking off her opponent 6-3, 6-0.
