GAME OVERVIEW:
WOBURN, MA—The Lesley Lynx Women's Tennis team played host to the 2019 NAC East Division Championship on Sunday. The Husson Eagles took home the title for the second year in a row, defeating NVU-Lyndon in the semifinals and the Lynx in the Championship match. The Lynx beat MCLA to get to the finals before falling 5-0 to Husson.
INSIDE THE SEMIFINALS:
- The Lynx played the first match of the day, kicking things off with MCLA at 9 AM. All-Conference partners Maddie Abbott and Grace Jovanovich won their doubles match 8-3, while Summer Lamprey and Morgan Anderson took their win 8-0. Lesley was up 2-1 after the doubles portion of the morning.
- Abbott also earned a win in singles #1 over MCLA's Jessica DuPont by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Joselyn Martinez defeated Sam Schwanter by the same score at singles #6 to put the Lynx ahead 4-1 on the day.
- The clinching match for the Lynx took place between NAC Co-Rookies of the Year Lamprey and McKenna Clark. Lamprey finished the match off for the Lynx with a 6-2, 6-3 win to send Lesley to the Championship.
- Husson swept Lyndon later at 12 PM, thanks to a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion.
- Jocelyn Bell got a singles win for Husson, weeping Hayley DeMars 6-0, 6-0, while NAC Player of the Year Ashley Matlock took singles #1 6-1, 6-0 to send the Eagles to their date with the Lynx.
INSIDE THE FINALS:
- Pre-season favorites Husson did not make things easy for the Lynx, getting off to a hot start with three doubles wins. Lamprey and Anderson did their best to take down Bell and Marisa Brown, but ultimately fell 8-6.
- Abbott and Jovanovich took another one down the wire, but could not get by Hannah Malinen and Natalie Tilton in doubles #1. Matlock and Nicci Munroe earned their win against Mary Pulling and Annie Dai 8-2.
- The Eagles clinched the win thanks to Tilton sweeping Anderson 6-0, 6-0 in singles #2 and Bell defeating Martinez 6-0, 6-1 in singles #6.
- For the second year in a row, the Husson Eagles were the champions of the NAC East tournament and will compete in the NAC Conference Championship in May to determine the overall winner.
- Abbott and Jovanovich were both named to the All-Tournament Team, while Tilton took home the day's MVP honors.

The Lynx will close out their season with a makeup match against the Wentworth Leopards at home on Wednesday October 9th at 3:30 PM.
