Lamprey Named NAC Rookie of Year, 6 to All-Conference

Waterville, ME-- Lesley first year, Summer Lamprey was named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Tennis Co-Rookie of the Year, as announced by conference officials Thursday afternoon.  Lamprey had an undefeated season in conference matches, going 4-0 at #4 singles and 2-0 at #5 singles. She also paired with Morgan Anderson (Bedford, Mass.) and achieved a 5-0 record at #3 doubles. Lamprey led Lesley to a 5-1 NAC record and the second seed in the 2019 East Division Championship. The First Team Singles honoree earned the Rookie of the Week award twice (weeks ending September 1 and September 29, 2019) for her unblemished record. The First-Year student is studying Elementary Education and Special Education.

Husson sophomore Ashley Matlock headlines the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Tennis All-Conference honors as the Player of the Year. Her teammate Jocelyn Bell is the Senior Scholar Athlete, and Eagles head coach Josh Warren is the Coach of the Year.

In addition to the major conference awards, 18 student athletes were named to the All-Conference Singles and Doubles First and Second Teams, and seven players were selected to the Sportsmanship Team. The NAC Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees have positively affected the women's tennis culture and match environment by clearly demonstrating sportsmanship and integrity beyond the tennis playing rules and etiquette.

Lamprey was lone Lynx player named to the All-Conference First Team Singles, while Morgan Anderson, Maddie Abbott, and Grace Jovanovich was named to the All-Conference Second Team Singles.  Duo of Abbott and Jovanovich earned Second Team Doubles recognition.  In addition, Abbott was named to the Sportsmanship Team.

The NAC women's tennis championship tournament is Sunday, October 6 at the Woburn Racquet Club in Woburn, Massachusetts. The first semifinal between #2 Lesley and #3 MCLA begins at 9:00 a.m., and the second semifinal between #1 Husson and #4 NVU-Lyndon is scheduled for a noon start. The semifinal match winners will square off for the championship at 3:30 p.m. Follow all the championship action here.
