UMass-Dartmouth Spoils Senior Night for Women's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team fell in the regular season finale 9-0 to UMass-Dartmouth tonight in non-conference action at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Lynx as they fall to 5-12 on the season while the Corsairs, now winners of three straight, improve to 7-5 on the season.

The Corsairs swept through the three doubles matches before earning wins in all six singles matches to secure the victory.

The UMass-Dartmouth duo of Kristen Rose (North Dartmouth, Mass.) and Mollie McCaffrey (Taunton, Mass.) started the night with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles before Kerry Magoon (Marshfield, Mass.) and Kheyla Orival (Woburn, Mass.) followed with an identical score to claim victory in the second doubles flight.

The Lynx nearly salvaged a point in the top doubles flight but Corsairs freshman Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) and senior Maggie LeBrun (Mattapoisett, Mass.) outlasted Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) 9-7.

McCaffrey and sophomore Orival opened singles play with matching 6-0, 6-0 set scores in the fifth and sixth matches, respectively. Magoon followed with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Lesley junior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) in No. 2 singles while Rose downed Diana Watson (Acton, Mass.) in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Lebrun retired Pereira 6-0, 6-0 in the third flight before Lahaie completed the match sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kiddie in the top singles match.

Prior to the match, the Lynx honored Rosie Heller (State College, Pa.) in a Senior Night celebration. In her lone season of collegiate competition, Heller posted a 4-5 doubles record and recorded her first singles win in straight sets against Newbury College.

The Lynx, who have earned the third seed in the New England Collegiate Conference Championship, will travel to second-seeded Becker College for a Semifinal matchup with the Hawks on Saturday. The Corsairs will continue regular season play on Thursday with a tilt at Salve Regina at 3:00p.
