Women's Tennis Trumps Newbury

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team earned their second straight New England Collegiate Conference victory as they topped Newbury College 8-1 this afternoon on the Regis College campus.

Lesley jumped on the scoreboard quickly with a 3-0 sweep of doubles. Juniors Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and Diana Watson (Acton, Mass.) led the way with an 8-0 win in second singles. Junior Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) and sophomore Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) followed with an 8-6 victory in third doubles before the sophomore tandem of Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, mass.) outlasted freshman Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) and junior Katelynne Bazile (Queens, N.Y.) also by an 8-6 score.

Amonique Wint (Lynn, Mass.) and Edvana Goncalves (Brockton, Mass.) battled junior Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) and sophomore Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) in third singles, taking them to 14 games but the Lynx were able to pull out the 8-6 victory.

In the singles portion of the day, Kiddie paced the Lynx taking first singles from Bazile, 6-1, 6-0. Pereira used straight sets of 6-4 to defeat Destiny Spears (Arnold, Md.) in third singles while Watson downed Sharifah Mukasa (Framingham, Mass.) 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4.

Lynx senior Rose Heller (State College, Pa.) earned her first collegiate singles win with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Edvana Goncalves (Brockton, Mass.) and Levensailor followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the sixth match over Amonique Wint (Lynn, Mass.).

Newbury earned their sole victory on the day at No. 2 singles as Russo came back after dropping the first set to outlast De Leon 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

The Lynx return to the courts on Monday October 12th when they travel to New London, Conn. to face conference foe Mitchell College at 11:00 A.M. Newbury closes out the season at 0-10 while Lesley improves to 3-11 and 3-5 in NECC action.
