Women's Tennis Grounds Nighthawks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team topped Newbury College 7-2 tonight in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The Lynx improve to 2-8 overall and 2-3 in NECC play with the victory while the Nighthawks fall to 0-5 on the year and in the conference with the loss.

The Lynx earned a pair of wins in doubles before taking five of the six singles match to claim the victory.

Lynx sophomores Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) handled Nighthawks junior Katelynne Bazile (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) 8-1 before Lesley's number three pairing of sophomore Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) topped freshmen Edvana Goncalves (Brockton, Mass.) and Amonique Wint (Lynn, Mass.) 8-4.

The Nighthawks tandem of Destiny Spears (Arnold, Md.) and Sharifah Mukasa (Framingham, Mass.) put the visitors on the board with an 8-5 victory in the number two slot over Rose Heller (State College, Pa.) and Diana Watson (Acton, Mass.).

The hosts dominated the singles portion of the match as Kiddie headlined five Lynx wins with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bazile in the top flight. Pereira followed with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Spears at number two while Watson downed Goncalves 6-3, 6-0 in number four singles. Goggin and Levensailor earned identical 6-3, 6-1 victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively.

Newbury claimed their sole singles victory in the third slot as Russo defeated Heller in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Both sides will be off until Tuesday, September 29th when they continue NECC play as the Lynx will head to Regis College at 4:30p while the Nighthawks will play host to Mitchell College at 7:00p.
