Mount Ida Comes Back to Top Women's Tennis

NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College won the final two singles matches to come from behind and collect a 5-4 victory over the Lesley University women's tennis team in non-conference women's tennis action at Mount Ida Tennis Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 1-7 on the year while the Mustangs notch their first win of the season as they improve to 1-2 in 2015.

The Lynx triumphed in two out of the three doubles matches to start the match before the Mustangs stormed back to win four of the six singles matches to earn the match victory.

Mustangs senior Rose Schneider (Lowell, Mass.) earned the deciding point, winning her fourth singles match 6-3, 6-4 after freshman Mackenzie Bumpus (Wilmington, Mass.) had tied the match at four with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Sophomore Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Jenna Jarman (Auburn, Mass.) teamed at first doubles to down Lesley sophomores Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) 8-3.

Lesley would take control of the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Junior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and senior Rose Heller (State College, Pa.) won their third consecutive match, outlasting Schneider and Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) 9-7 in second doubles.

Lynx juniors Diana Watson (Cambridge, Mass.) and Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) followed with an 8-2 win over Renee Randazzo (Gloucester, Mass.) and Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.) to give the Lynx a 2-1 match lead. The Lesley duo fell behind 2-1 in the match before rallying for seven straight points to earn the win.

Levy earned her second win of the afternoon when she topped Kiddie 6-2, 6-1 in the first flight while Jarman earned a win at No. 2 doubles after a Lynx retirement due to injury.

Pereira and Watson both pulled points back for the Lynx, with Pereira winning by matching 6-4 scores over Jesse at third singles and Watson beating Barnabe 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles.

Bumpus fought her way through a first set tiebreaker at the six spot to beat Levensailor and tie the match at four points apiece before Schneider finished off Heller for the pivotal winning point.

Lesley will get back to New England Collegiate Conference play when they travel to Becker College on Wednesday for a 3:00 pm contest with the Hawks.
