Anna Maria Tops Women's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team had their home opener spoiled as they dropped a 7-2 decision to Anna Maria College in non-conference play this evening at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 0-2 to start the young season while the AMCATS improve to an even 1-1.

The AMCATS got out to a fast start on the night, taking a 3-0 sweep in the doubles portion of the match. Callie Mulcahy and Ashley Fernandes earned an 8-1 win over Lynx sophomore Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) before Marissa Leonard and Freya Sprous teamed up for an 8-3 win over Rose Heller (State College, Pa.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.). Nicola Zamira and Morgan Rodriguez completed the doubles sweep with a come from behind 8-6 win over sophomore Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and junior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.).

In the singles portion of the match, Mulcahy topped Pereira 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles match before Fernandes dropped Heller 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 match to give Anna Maria the win.

Kiddie gave the Lynx their first victory in singles as she defeated Zamira 6-0, 6-1 in the first match while De Leon followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Rodriguez in second singles. Palmer posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Levensailor in No. 6 singles while Leonard wrapped up the evening with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) triumph over Goggin in the fifth match.

Lesley returns to the court on Thursday when they head to Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30p before returning home on Saturday when they open up NECC play against Regis College. Anna Maria will kick off a three-match home stand on Friday when they play host to Curry College at 3:00p.
