Women's Tennis Completes Season Sweep Over Bay Path

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Lesley University women's tennis team completed a season sweep of Bay Path College this afternoon, downing the Wildcats 5-4 in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Grande Meadow Tennis Club. The win propels the Lynx to an 8-3 overall record while improving to 5-2 in the NECC. Bay Path, who fell to the Lynx 7-2 in Cambridge on September 24th, falls to 4-7 on the year and 3-4 in conference play.

Lesley jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Lesley seniors Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.) got the night started with an 8-1 decision in the No. 3 flight. Lesley's top tandem of freshman Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Carlyn Barker (Murrieta, Calif.) followed with a win as they defeated Bay Path seniors Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.) and Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) 8-3 in the No. 1 flight.

The Wildcats avoided the doubles sweep as the No. 2 pairing of juniors Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) earned an 8-6 triumph over Lesley sophomore Frances de Leon (Murrieta Calif.) and senior Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsonbury, Vt.).

Lesley junior Christyl Skelton (Burlington, Mass.) earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory in No. 6 singles before classmate Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine) followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 5 match. Kiddie then defeated Morin with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in No. 1 singles to seal the match for the Lynx. The Wildcats would not quit, however, as they earned victories in No. 2, 3, and 4 singles matches.

The Lynx will return to action on Saturday, October 11th as they celebrate Senior Day with an NECC matchup with Becker College at 2:00p. Lesley will look to sweep the season series with the Hawks as they earned an 8-1 decision in their previous matchup.
