Women's Tennis Earns Second Straight NECC Win Over Bay Path

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team recorded their second straight New England Collegiate Conference victory tonight with an 7-2 triumph over Bay Path College at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The win avenges a trio of losses to the Wildcats in 2013, including a 5-4 decision in the 2013 NECC Semifinals, and moves the Lynx to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in NECC play in 2014.With the loss, Bay Path falls to 3-5 on the year and an even 2-2 in conference action.

The Lesley tandem of Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine) and Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) got the night started with an 8-0 triumph over Kimberly Drahushuk and Yismel Rosario in No. 3 doubles while Carlyn Barker (Murrieta, Calif.) and Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) teamed up to defeat Stephanie Morin and Abbigail Janneke 8-1 in the first doubles flight.

Brittany Walsh and Taylor wood earned Bay Path's first victory of the night in a battle with Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.) at No. 3 doubles. Walsh and Taylor took the match 9-7 after winning a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Lynx junior Christyl Skelton (Burlington, Mass.) started the singles portion of the match with a three set victory over Katie Leibowitz. Skelton and Leibowitz split the first two sets as they each earned a 6-1 victory before Skelton outlasted Leibowitz 11-9 in the third set tiebreaker for the victory.

Kiddie put the Lynx up 4-1 on the night as she retired Morin in straight sets, 6-1,6-2, in No. 1 singles before De Leon gave the hosts the victory with a 6-1,6-1 decision over Aboagye in the fourth singles match.

True defeated Janneke 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) in No. 4 singles before Iverson earned a win in the No. 2 match with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) over Walsh.

Taylor Wood earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the third singles flight over Barker in Bay Path's one singles win.

The Lynx will continue NECC action on Saturday, September 27th when they travel to Becker College at 1:00p. The Wildcats will also be back in NECC play on Saturday when they return home to host Newbury College at 1:00p.
