Bay Path Sweeps Season Series Over Women's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bay Path Wildcats completed the regular season sweep of the Lynx tonight with a 7-2 victory in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's tennis action at Buckingham, Browne and Nichols. The Wildcats improve to 9-4 on the season and 6-2 in conference action while the Lynx fall to 4-6 and 3-4 in NECC play. Bay Path topped Lesley, also by a 7-2 result, on September 27th to take both matches this season.

The Wildcats rolled to a sweep of the doubles matches as Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) and Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) got the night started with an 8-3 win in first doubles over Lynx juniors Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.). The Bay Path tandem senior Teanna Montoya (Edgartown, Mass.) and junior Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.) and sophomores Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) each grabbed 8-4 victories in second and third doubles, respectively.

Watson continued her success at No. 1 doubles, topping Lynx junior Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) 6-1, 6-3 while Morin picked up a victory in the second flight with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Lesley freshman Grace Ciampa (Tewksbury, Mass.) in what was the match clincher. Walsh grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 victory in No. 3 singles over Lesley sophomore Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Me.).

The Lynx picked up their first win of the night when freshman Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) finished Montoya 6-3, 6-1 in fourth singles. Emma True would follow that up in No. 5 singles, winning the first set 6-3 before Wood retired trailing 4-1.

This was the final regular season match for Bay Path, who guaranteed themselves a spot in the NECC Championship  Tournament while the Lynx will play in their home finale on Friday, October 11th when they play host to Becker College at 7:00p.
