Regis Sweeps Through Women's Tennis

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team improved to a perfect 5-0 in New England Collegiate Conference action with a 9-0 sweep of Lesley University on Thursday night in Weston, Mass. The Pride improve to 6-2 overall and have won five straight matches, while Lesley drops to 3-5 and 2-3 in league games.

The Pride started out the day with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play as Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and NECC Rookie of the Week Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) defeated Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine) and Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) 8-3 at No. 1 singles. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) posted an 8-0 win over Grace Ciampa (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Emma True (Lee, N.H.). Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) added a win in No. 3 doubles by a matching score.

In singles play, Wehr defeated Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) 6-0, 6-1, and Jessie Lord won her No. 4 singles matchup by the same score. Jewel Medeiros, Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.), and Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) also picked up wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Lesley's Grace Ciampa nearly defeated Emily Rice at No. 2 singles, but Rice held on for a 7-5, 6-1 win in the 9-0 sweep.

Regis returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Pride hosts Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in a matchup of the two unbeaten NECC teams. Lesley wraps up a four game road trip on Saturday when they travel to Mitchell College for a league game at 12:00 p.m.
