Pride Sweeps Through Women's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over the Lynx tonight in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The Pride, last season's NECC Champion, improve to 2-2 on the year and a perfect 2-0 in conference play while the Lynx fall to 1-3 and 0-1 in the NECC.

Regis got off to a 3-0 start after sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomore Abbie Wehr (Suwanne, Ga.) and freshman Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-0 shutout in first doubles while the tandem of sophomore Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and freshman Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) rolled to an 8-1 decision in the second flight. Junior Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) topped Lesley freshmen Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and Grace Ciampa (Tewksbury, Mass.) 8-4 in the final doubles match of the night.

Wehr continued her success in first singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory before Rice followed up with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ciampa in second singles. Medeiros kept the ball rolling for the Pride who posted a hard fought 6-3, 6-2 win over Lesley sophomore Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Me.) in third singles. Both Lord and freshman Kat Troisi (Lynn, Mass.) posted 6-1, 6-1 victories in fourth and sixth singles, respectively, while first-year Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.) grabbed a 6-0, 6-2 win on fifth singles over Lynx junior Meghann Toomajian (Nahant, Mass.).

Both teams will be back in NECC play on Saturday, September 21st. The Lynx will play host to Mitchell College at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols at 3:30p while the Pride will travel to Bay Path College for a 1:00p start.
