Women's Tennis Slams Mt. Ida, Earns First Win

NEWTON, Mass. – Lesley University women's tennis team scored a 9-0 victory over Mount Ida on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action at the Mount Ida Tennis Courts. The win was the first of the year for the Lynx who improve to 1-2.

Mount Ida's Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Kaytlen Putnam (Falmouth, Mass.) dropped an 8-2 decision at first doubles to the tandem of Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.) and Emma True (Lee, N.H.).

Lord also fell at first singles, where she battled Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) to a 4-6 first set defeat before withdrawing in the second set trailing 2-1.

For the Lynx, Iverson and Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Me.) took the second doubles point with an 8-1 victory over Alicia Ritchie (Andover, Conn.) and Lizzie Trautz (Sandown, N.H.).

Bunker also won 6-0, 6-0 over Ritchie at the #3 singles position,  while True used the same score to get past Mount Ida freshman Alexus Elder (Taunton, Mass.) at fourth singles.

Victoria Messinger (Southbury, Conn.) was the only other Mustang to take a game, but fell 6-1, 6-0 to junior Meghann Toomajian (Nahant, Mass.) at fifth singles.

Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.) and Elder took a game at third doubles for the home team, but fell 8-1 to Kaitlin Parthum (Marblehead, Mass.) and Kelly Watt (Babylon, N.Y.).

The Mustangs drop to 0-3 on the year and are off until September 21st when they open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play home against Simmons (12:00 pm).

Lesley (1-2) will travel to Newbury College for their first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) game on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
