CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Anna Maria women's tennis team opened up their season with a 5-4 win over the Lynx tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. With the loss, Lesley falls to 0-2 on the young season.

The AMCATS got off to a hot start, taking two of three doubles matches. Junior Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) and freshman Jessica Gautieri (North Attleboro, Mass.) combined to win No. 1 doubles over Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.), 8-1. Anna Maria picked up its second win of the night in the second doubles flight as senior Victoria Minotti (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, Conn.) topped Lesley junior Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and sophomore Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Me.) 8-2.

Lesley got on the board in the third singles match as sophomore Kelly Watt (Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Kaitlin Parthum (Hardwick, Mass.) earned an 8-2 victory over Anna Maria senior Kelly Blake (Southbridge, Mass.) and junior Kayla Buck (Wilbraham, Mass.).

The AMCATS sealed the match after taking the first three singles matches of the night. At No. 1 singles, Goudreau earned a 6-2 win in the first set before surviving a 7-5 tiebreak over Iverson in the second to earn the victory in two straight sets. Gautieri followed suit in second singles earning a 6-0, 6-2 win before Minotti earned the decisive fifth point in third singles, with a hard fought 6-3, 6-3 win over True.

The Lynx would not quit, however, and earned victories in the final three matches of the night.
