CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- Freshman Meghann Toomanjian teamed with Aleena Naqvi in picking up a third doubles victory, but Newbury won five of six singles points in its 7-2 win Monday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis play.
Both Toomanjian and Naqvi secured her first doubles win of the season, as the duo teamed for an emphatic 8-1 win over Hazel Gammad and Hannah Weiner.
Lesley sophomore Carissa Iverson, meanwhile, notched a second straight victory in sixth singles, beating Hannah Weiner 6-4, 6-1, but led by Sarah Harris and Jennifer Swafford, the Nighthawks won all five other singles points.
Harris defeated Hannah Phalen 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 in No. 1 singles after teaming with Alexandra Derderian in a top doubles win, and Swafford upended Toomanjian and teamed with Julie MacLeod for an 8-3 second doubles win.
Lesley returns to play on Wednesday at Bay Path at 3:30 p.m.
