CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Mitchell College (3-6, 2-4 NECC) edged host Lesley University (0-9, 0-7) 5-4 Sunday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
Emma True (Lee, NH/Oyster River) earned a quick 6-2, 6-0 second singles win and improved to 4-3 with teammate Molly Phelps (Durham, NH/Oyster River) in doubles action, picking up their first No. 1 doubles win 8-2. Aleena Naqvi (Islamabad, Pakistan/Head Start) won her first match as a Lynx with a 6-1, 6-2 fourth singles victory, but two forfeited points ultimately cost the Lynx the match.
For Mitchell, Carly Patterson (Gaels Ferry, CT/Ledyard) picked up a 7-6, 6-1 No. 1 singles victory, and Jennifer Schmidt Clarksburg, MA/Drury) bested Phelps 6-3, 6-4 in third doubles.
Lesley's Jillian Clarke (Old Tappan, NJ/North Vally Regional) and Hannah Phalen (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) earned a second doubles point, topping Schmidt and Chelsea Arpin 9-8.
The Lynx return to action Monday afternoon in NECC play at Newbury College.
