CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Visiting Becker College (14-1, 9-0 NECC) won its 14th straight match on Saturday, topping Lesley University (5-6, 5-5 NECC), 8-1, in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
Becker's Megan Nessen (Levittown, PA/Truman) earned victories in first singles and first doubles. Reigning NECC Player of the Week Michelle Side (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) forced Nessen to three sets, but the Hawks senior prevailed, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1. Nessen teamed with Laura Mimms (Ashland, MA/Ashland) for an 8-2 victory over Michelle and Katie Side in first doubles play.
Lianna Woodbury (South Dennis, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth) and Courtney Johnson (Auburn, ME/Edward Little) also earned a combined three points for the Hawks, winning in fifth and sixth singles, respectively, and teaming for a 9-7 third singles win.
For the Lynx, Brenna Donovan (Hingham, MA/Hingham) and Nicole Smith (Rindge, NH/Dublin School) earned an 8-2 second doubles victory as Lesley finishes league play at 5-5.
The Lynx travel to Emmanuel on Monday for an out-of-conference tune-up with the Saints before starting NECC playoffs on Wednesday.
