CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley University improved to 4-1 in New England Collegiate Confernece play with a 6-3 win over visiting Newbury College Tuesday night at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
Brenna Donovan (Hingham, MA/Hingham) stayed perfect in singles play at 4-0 on the season for the Lynx with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Julie MacLeod (Buffalo, NY/Frontier) in fourth singles. The junior also teamed with Nicole Smith (Rindge, NH/Dublin School) for an 8-5 second doubles victory over Alexandra Derderian (Waltham, MA/Waltham) and Olivia Iafrate (North Providence, RI/North Providence).
Lesley's Emily Scolaro improved to 2-1 in the fifth single slot with an 8-2 victory over Iafrate.
For Newbury, Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) knocked off Smith in second singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, and Derderian topped Lesley's Katie Side (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) in third singles, 6-1, 6-1. Swafford teamed with Kristen Conners (Riverside, RI/East Providence) for an 8-4 win over Katie and Michelle Side.
Lesley (4-2 overall) returns to play at Regis on Thursday, when Newbury (0-8, 0-4 NECC) plays host to Mitchell.
