NEWTON, MA -- Lesley University women's tennis dropped its season opener, 7-2, Friday afternoon in non-conference play at Mount Ida College.

For the Lynx, Katie Side and Nicole Smith earned points in second and third singles, respectively.

After losing her only match in second singles play in 2010, Side started 2011 with a win in No. 2 play. Smith, who went 2-2 in third single a season ago but played the majority of 2010 in fourth singles, was victorious in her third singles debut of 2011.

Lesley returns to play on Thursday, September 8 at 3:00 p.m. in non-league action at UMass-Boston.
