THE LEAD— The Lesley University women's soccer team opened the 2025 campaign with 90 scoreless minutes of action in a 0-0 draw against cross-river rival Wentworth Institute of Technology.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both sides got out to a slow start in the opening stanza, each only attempting a pair of shots with none landing on frame through the first 45 minutes of action.
  • Lesley had two first half corners in a short span with neither resulting in a goal-scoring opportunity and the sides reluctantly settled for a stalemate heading into the halftime intermission.
  • Despite controlling most of the possession battle, the Lynx could not break through the Leopards back line and did not record a shot on goal until the 57th minute of play by senior Kylie Chagnon (Framingham, Mass.) that was turned away by Shayla Kulesza.
  • It wasn't until the 73rd minute that Lesley was able to attempt another shot on frame as sophomore Elsie Koehler (Portland, Ore.) tried to put the hosts ahead only to be denied by Kulesza once again.
  • The Lynx had the final scoring chance of the afternoon collecting a corner with under a minute to play in the contest. WIT was unable to safely clear the cross and LU senior Zoe Curtaz (San Antonio, Texas) had the final look in the action, but the attempt sailed wide before time expired to wrap the scoreless tie in the opener for both programs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • LU finished the afternoon outshooting the Leopards by a 5-3 margin and owned a 5-2 edge in corners.
  • Kulesza made two saves in the shutout while Lesley senior Madison Reed (Burlingame, Calif.) collected her 11th career clean sheet with a scoreless slate.
  • Seniors Maddy Duskocy (Ellington, Conn.) and Rachel Weinzimer (Woodland Hills, Calif.) paced the Lynx back four in a solid defensive showing.
  • Lesley improves to 4-1-1 all-time vs. WIT.
  • The opening day shutout was the program's first in an opener since a 3-0 win over Wentworth back on Aug. 30, 2019.
  • The scoreless draw was also the first of its kind for LU since Nov. 4, 2017, when the Lynx played Elms College to a 110-minute stalemate before Lesley captured the NECC Championship in penalties, 5-3.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley plays host to MIT on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 7:00 PM while the Leopards welcome Albertus Magnus to Boston on Sunday for their home-opener scheduled for a 12:00 PM kickoff at Sweeney Field.
