THE LEAD— Despite outshooting the UMaine Farmington Beavers 25-7, the Lesley University women's soccer team fell 1-0 Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides played a tightly contested first period as neither side could find the back of the net even though the Lynx outshot the visitors 13-4.
- Lesley had a great chance early in the opening period when Chase Livesey (St. Petersberg, Fla.) peppered Beavers goalie Paige Gonya with shots at 11:28 and 13:14 but were turned away each time.
- Later in the period, UMaine Farmington had its own opportunity to break the scoreless tie when Abby Lash put a shot on net, but Madison Reed (Burlingame, Calif.) made the clutch save.
- As the first half winded down (41:31), Abby Kalou (Chicago, Ill.) had a great look for the Lynx, but once again, Gonya made the crucial save and both sides headed into the half tied at zero.
- With the second half well underway, both sides still could not generate the contest's first goal, but at the 70:40 mark, Abby Lash gave the Beavers the 1-0 advantage. Lash generated her own offense near the goalie box and rifled a curling shot from the left side of the box that went just out of Reed's reach.
- From then on, Lesley continued to play aggressively and had numerous chances for the game-tying goal. The squad sent four shots toward the UMaine Farmington net, including a great look from Kalou at 87:51 when she was one-on-one against Gonya, but her shot went right in the mitts of the Beavers goalie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kalou led the attack for the Lynx with five shots, followed by Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.) with four, and three different Lynx had three shots apiece (Leecy Cruz (San Antonio, Texas), Isabella Danna (Miami, Fla.), and Kylie Chagnon (Framingham, Mass.).
- Lesley held the advantage in corner kicks by a 5-0 margin.
- Gonya finished the day with an impressive ten saves.
UP NEXT
- Lesley has its final road contest of the season when the squad heads up to Thomas College on Wednesday, October 23, for a 7 p.m. start.
