THE LEAD – The Lesley University women's soccer team extended its win streak to four with a 2-1 win over North Atlantic Conference foe Husson University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lynx retook first place from the Eagles in the NAC East standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Despite outshooting the Lynx 4-0 in the first half, Lesley netminder Madison Reed (Burlingame, Calif.) stonewalled each of the Eagles' chances.
  • Reed made two key back-to-back saves late in the first after Husson peppered the junior with two quick shots, but she turned away both.
  • Nearly 10 minutes into the second (56:56), Abby Kalou (Chicago, Ill.) broke the scoreless tie with her seventh goal on the season. Kalou's strike was set up by Chase Livesey (St. Petersburg, Fla.), who found a hole in the Husson defense near the middle of the field. Kalou then pushed her shot past the sliding Husson goalie.
  • Later in the second (71:32), Lesley tacked on an insurance goal thanks to Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.), who capitalized on a penalty kick beating the keeper left side.
  • Despite a late Eagles goal at the 80:33 mark, Lesley held on for the eventual 2-1 conference win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Kalou extended her scoring streak to three games in a row. Each time the senior has scored this year, the Lynx are undefeated (6-0).
  • Curtaz's goal marked her fourth of the year, and she has now scored in back-to-back contests.
  • Reed has won her last two starts and improved her record to 3-3 this season.
  • Today's match marked the seventh time the schools have met, and Lesley has now taken the last two despite Husson holding the series lead (5-2).
