THE LEAD – Senior forward Ariana Bunch (Newton, Mass.) scored a hat trick to lift Lesley University past UMaine Presque Isle, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon in NCAA Division III and North Atlantic Conference women's soccer at Minuteman Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lynx opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Lily Wright (Haymarket, Va.) finished off a pass from junior Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.) to put LU on top, 1-0.
- Bunch made it 2-0 on a breakaway goal in the 33rd minute and Lesley held the two-goal advantage into the halftime break.
- The hosts lead jumped to 3-0 on a score by Kylie Chagnon (Framingham, Mass.) on another Curtaz assist in the 48th minute before senior Abby Kalou (Chicago, Ill.) moved the lead to 4-0 with an unassisted marker in the 72nd minute.
- Bunch capped the scoring with two goals over the final six minutes for the hat trick.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Lesley outshot the Owls 30-3 and won the corner kick advantage, 12-0.
- Senior keeper Lauren Lacy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made one save to earn the shutout win.
- Mia Voisine made 15 saves for the Owls in the setback.
- Kalou added an assist for three points in the win and is now just four points shy of 100 for her Lesley career.
OF NOTE
- Prior to the start of the match, the Lesley University athletic department honored Lacy, Kalou, Bunch as well as fellow seniors Lauren Rudolph (Winchester, Va.), Isabella Danna (Miami, Fla.), Sacha Porter (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Payten Gallagher (Eugene, Ore.), and Chase Livesey (St. Petersburg, Fla.) in a brief Senior Day ceremony.
