THE LEAD – Lesley University played visiting Suffolk University to a tough 1-1 draw on NCAA Division III women's soccer non-conference action at Minuteman Field in Lexington, Mass. Tuesday evening. The Lynx (1-2-1) snap a two-match losing skid with the tie while the Rams remain unbeaten through six matches at 5-0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Suffolk opened the scoring at the 26:03 marker in the opening stanza on a tally by first year midfielder Sinclaire Hart (Keswick, Va.) to put the visitors on top, 1-0. Grad student Maci Pekmezian (Melbourne Beach, Fla.) delivered the assist, her first helper of the campaign.
- Despite the one-goal deficit, the Lynx outshot the Rams in the opening stanza, 6-3 while also owning a 3-1 edge in first half corners.
- The score remained 1-0 until the 71st minute of play when a Rams defender was carded for a tackle in the box that resulted in a Lesley penalty. The Lynx initial attempt was denied but the hosts were awards a second attempt due to early movement by a Suffolk player. Junior Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.) made it count for her second score in as many games to knot the score at 1-1.
- Over the final 19 minutes, both squads had looks to pull ahead. Hart may have had the best look in the waning minutes of action, hitting a post with 4:15 to play but neither squad to convert resulting in the 1-1 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hart's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
- Lesley senior goalkeeper Lauren Lacy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made six saves to move to 1-1-1 on the year while Suffolk keeper Arden Ferrari-Henry made eight saves.
- LU owned a 16-13 shot advantage on the night with corners ended deadlocked at five.
UP NEXT
- Both sides return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 21 when the Lynx play host to UMaine Presque Isle at 2:30 PM in their NAC opener. The Rams head to Gordon for some CNE action at noon.
