BABSON PARK, Mass.— The Lesley University women's soccer team suffered their first blemish of the 2015 season, falling 1-0 to host Babson College this afternoon in non-conference play at Hartwell-Rogers Field. The loss drops the Lynx to an even 1-1 on the season while the Beavers improve to 2-0.
After a scoreless first half, Babson freshman Jessica Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.) notched her first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute when she one-timed a pass at the mouth of the goal from fellow first year Kathryn Clark (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) for the game's only score.
The Lynx had an opportunity to answer just a minute later, but sophomore Karlie Rubin's (San Diego, Calif.) shot was saved by Babson keeper Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine).
Babson finished with a 13-2 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corners on the afternoon. Mycock stopped a pair of shots for her second straight shutout. Lynx sophomore Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) was credited with two first-half saves, while senior Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) made three stops and allowed the lone goal in the second 45-minute frame.
Both teams will retake the field tomorrow as the Lynx travel to Wellesley College at 2:30p while the Beavers will play host to Simmons College. Kick off for that match is also set for 2:30p.
